Version:English&Mandarin(Tiffany yang
Around the world1272days (challenge police)
If there are two ways for me to travel:one is against the wind with boundless flat roads? Another one is zigzag mountain roads; which one I would choose?
The answer is zigzag mountain roads.
In Saskatchewan Canada, a prairie with torrid weather, it remind me of Sahara desert when I biked there years ago. Although the temperature wasn’t hot like that but it definitely felt the straw with fire on my skin.
But…
I got the most precious story of Canada:
In the hot summer day, I found a shade behind the police station for resting a bit, then have a cigarette. When I just about to sit down, there was a police officer also came out for a cigarette, we were greeting each other.
His name is Brennan.
B: Hey, where are you going.
R: Alaska
This started our conversation with my stories. A short ten minutes brief my past four years biking life around the world. This officer was so excited.
B: Do you need anything else? I can check if we have something inside.
R: three bottles of water
Brennan went inside and brought water bottles to me; also gave me a coin and said:
“This is your gift, Reo. Do you know the story about this coin.”
This is “ challenge coin” – it was tradition from World War I. In that time ,police all
have this coin and it represents the honor. Backdate, there was a police A walked in the bar and challenging to police B officer, said:
“I challenge you ”
Facing the challenge , the police B didn’t bring the coin with him, so he can’t show it; therefore, he has to buy a drink for everyone in the bar. Opposite,
if officer B showed up the coin, then officer A has to buy a drink for everyone in the bar.
Wow! This is very precious gift. Am I only can use it in Saskatchewan?
No, you can use it to all Commonwealth of Nations. You can challenge the police officer on behalf of me.
Ps. What an amazing story. I clean this coin three times a day.
